Dense biological tissues maintain sharp surfaces between cell types performing different functions. One possible candidate is tissue surface tension, which contributes to cell sorting and compartmentalization in embryonic development. We use computational models to identify experimentally accessible signatures of tissue surface tension between two distinct layers in a fully 3D simulation.
