The field of solid state physics is responsible for much of modern technology, including integrated circuits, lasers, and superconductors. The subject is a great foundation for research in hard and soft condensed matter physics or materials science.
This introductory class for upper division undergraduates and graduate students will cover vibrations and electronic properties of solids (semiconductors, metals, and insulators) . Depending on class interests, additional topics may include glasses and superconductivity.
